A few days ago, we were raving about Cody Buckel. Nothing has really changed on that end, except for a bad 6 inning performance in his last outing. On the pitching front, Andrew Chafin has taken a leading role with the Visalia Rawhide and is leading all starting pitchers in HIGH A. The thing that sets him apart most is [...]

This is Matt Barnes first professional season, and I think that his dominance of Class A hitters is flat out impressive. In his first game ever on April 8th of 2012, Barnes faced the Lakewood Blue Claws and went for 5 innings of shutout baseball on only 2 hits, 2 walks, and 9 strikeouts. Since that time, Barnes has gone [...]

We put together a list of the youngest players doing extremely well in 2012 so far. All of them were born at least in 1992. When looking at the list of hitters, there are names that stand out to me. Such as Miguel Sano, and Nick Castellanos. I’m of the opinion, that Sano may be a more fascinating hitter with [...]

This list holds something extra and significant for Baseball Trenches. This list is led by a a very special ball player who has had an interesting ride through professional baseball. He is a graduate of Joliet Catholic Academy and attended Saint Xavier University. Then, in 2007 as a senior at St. Xavier University, Quigley was named to the NAIA Baseball [...]

I put together a list of the top relievers with at least 9 innings within both the Midwest and South Atlantic League. There were some very good ones for sure so far in the new 2012 season. Our choice for the top Class A performer in relief has to be Colombian right hander Dayan Diaz. He broke into the professional [...]

In analyzing talent at the High A level, you have to place consideration on the differences between leagues. I suppose that’s true with many other leagues, but I think that fact is most popular when talking about the California League. On the pitching side, I was happy to see Zach Lee, Cody Buckel, and Jed Bradley off to good starts. [...]

Archie Bradley is probably the biggest name heading this list. After 4 starts, aside from minor control issues, Bradley has not disappointed. Still, if I had to point out who I thought was having a better statistical start to the 2012 season from the mound, I would say Michael Jensen. Now, in this edition of Baseball Trenches, my pick for [...]

We here at Baseball Trenches love true baseball stories. It is clear that scouts move on players who show or better yet flash highly projected tools. Sometimes those tools are so raw that they wont spell success for some years. Other times those tools never become true big league skills at all. What I love to see are stories like [...]
